After assembling our bikes at the airport in Bogota we ran into our friend Rachel - a fellow cyclists from Canada - who just arrived from Mexico. The amazing thing is that we have run into her numerous times since first meeting her in California. Oh small, small world :)
Stepping outside the air conditioned airport felt amazing - it was cool out, maybe around 18 degrees Celsius and it wasn't humid. This felt like heaven after Central America!!!
It felt like we were riding downhill for two days after leaving Bogota, which is at around 2.644 m elevation (we definitely felt the difference having spent so much time around sea level recently). Sadly, the more meters we lost the more degrees we gained and soon it was around 30 -35 degrees Celsius again. Hot! But, the humidity is way lower so at least it is not a steam sauna, more a dry sauna. The scenery has been absolutely stunning! Forests, canyons, rivers, mountains and wide open views - we both have been longing for this a lot after Central America.
They cooked us an amazing dinner and made us a delicious Colombian breakfast. The hospitality and friendliness of Colombian people is incredible! We have already decided that one day we will come back to Colombia and explore more of this beautiful and friendly place! And bring our mountain bikes!
