We found that Mexican people really appreciate if you make an effort to try to speak at least a few words in their language. Some are very surprised that we are able to communicate in Spanish as many of the US travelers here do not make an effort at all. Probably one of the reasons why Americans are not very popular here (or anywhere in the world really). Many Americans don’t even travel under their own flag for that very reason, they pretend to be Canadians. I wonder if they ever think about the reasons. Maybe a first step would be to be a bit nicer to people when they travel to foreign countries, make a bit of an effort and climb down from their high horse. There are of course many awesome Americans that we have met along the road, so no offence to you great people!
Jill for flying all the way down to Mexico to cycle with us for a couple of weeks! We really enjoyed the company! Next time she will bike with us, we have to strap a horse to her bike to slow her down a bit so we can keep up!
The guy who payed for our ice cream at a rest stop.
Another guy who handed us a bunch of granola bars to make sure we were not running out of fuel at the same rest stop.
Carlos from Mezcalito Blue Hostel who was a really awesome and helpful host during our stay there.
Our amazing Spanish teachers from ICI, Judith and Liliana.
